AHEC Goes "All In" at Annual Preceptor Recognition Celebration

11/27/2015

Friday the 13th is generally considered unlucky. It’s a day to avoid black cats, broken mirrors, and games of chance – usually.  Throwing caution to the wind, the Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (NE KY AHEC) defied superstition and tested Lady Luck, hosting a “Casino Night” at its annual Preceptor Recognition Celebration on Friday, Nov. 13.

The event, held at Morehead State University’s Button Auditorium Drill Room, featured 13 casino tables with professional dealers.  Games included blackjack, craps, poker, and a roulette wheel, and dealers provided lessons to those not familiar with rules of the games.  A DJ kept the dance floor full, with dancers doing classics like the electric slide and the cha cha slide.  Vegas-inspired food and a full bar completed the atmosphere, as attendees tested their luck at the tables.

Dozens of preceptors were honored at the event, with seven receiving awards for outstanding service. “Each day and in every corner of our 17-county region, clinicians are making a selfless and significant contribution by teaching the next generation of health care providers,” said NE KY AHEC director David Gross.  “Because of these clinicians’ dedication to their profession and this region, the Northeast Kentucky AHEC is able to coordinate hundreds of student and resident rotations each year.”

At the end of the night, players cashed in their chips for tickets to the prize raffle.  Winners were:
$50 gift certificate to Echo Valley Winery – Dr. Clarence and Mrs. Ann Clayton;
Two Cave Run Symphony tickets (February and April 2016 shows)  – Dr. Jeffrey and Mrs. Kelli Ellis;
Two tickets to “Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker” at the Paramount Arts Theater – Amy Whisman, guest of Dr. Dreama Rucker
Two-night stay at any Kentucky state resort park – Dr Sanjiv and Mrs. Rajina Gupta; and
Two lower-arena University of Kentucky vs. Arizona State basketball tickets – Mr. Ryan and Mrs. Debbie Neff.

For preceptors of the NE KY AHEC, Friday the 13th proved to be a very lucky day, indeed, as the NE KY AHEC showed its appreciation and gratitude through a fun-filled and entertaining evening.
