The Northeast AHEC participates in a variety of community education events throughout the year including health fairs, our annual Oh Baby! It’s a Baby Shower in Morehead, and sponsorship of a weekly health-focused radio show.
Oh Baby! It’s a Baby Shower
Since 2002, the Northeast AHEC has partnered with St. Claire Regional Medical Center and University of Kentucky Health Care Obstetrics and Gynecology to host an annual “Oh Baby! It’s a Baby Shower”. Various groups such as health care institutions and community organizations gather to educate new and expected parents and families along with those choosing to adopt, about the many aspects of caring for their “little bundles of joy.” In the past, this event has attracted approximately 600 participants. There are various informational booths providing women’s care education, helpful tips on parenting, as well as many free giveaways throughout the event. Participants are given the chance to speak to health care experts regarding any specific questions they may have.

Our nutrition booth provides information about healthy eating, the effects of an inactive lifestyle, and your approximate body mass index (BMI). The purpose of our booth is to get the community thinking about healthier living for their families and to help them make healthier choices for themselves.
The DermaScan is a machine that amplifies the image of your face using a black light. The black light highlights the effects of overexposure from the sun's UV rays. Our booth also offers useful information on different types of skin cancer and how to prevent and treat skin cancer.
