Madison Tackett, a 2012 graduate of Russell Independent High School, has been selected to participate in the Summer Health Internship Program (SHIP), a paid six-week internship for undergraduate health care students hosted by the Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center.
Madison is a 2016 graduate of the Kentucky Christian University’s biology program and will be an upcoming freshman at the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Optometry. She will be interning with Kentucky TeleCare to expand the use of diabetic retinopathy screening camera utilization at St. Claire Regional Family Medicine clinics. Madison will learn to use the Centervus DRS camera system and develop strategies with the local St. Claire Regional Telemedicine staff to expand utilization of the technology.
"I'm very excited to be a part of SHIP and working through UK's diabetic retinopathy clinica at St. Claire Regional," says Madison. "I'm interested in this as an optometry student, and will be able to learn another aspect of being an optometrist outside of a regular clinic setting."
